Minister Steven Smith, Minister of Music and Worship
 

“My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul,”  (Psalm 108:1)

Steven L. Smith is an accomplished producer, musician and writer of Gospel music, recording with some of the industry’s finest and foremost artists.  A native of Chicago, IL, he is the 6th of 9 children born to the late Deacon LC and Amanda Smith.  While family was joined in fellowship with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Roseland in Chicago, a very young Steven exhibited a special anointing and gifting in music.  He was educated in the Chicago Public School system, graduating from Christian Fenger High School on Chicago’s South Side and later attended Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. He has graduated from Geneva College, Center for Urban Biblical Ministries in Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Christian Ministry. Rev. Smith was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Chicago as a teacher within their parochial school system, teaching Music Theory and Instrumentation to children Pre-K through 8th grade.

Steven began playing piano at t the tender age of 3 and the Hammond organ at the age of 9, exhibiting both skill and precision.  He was musician and director of various groups, choirs and ensembles throughout the Chicago area. While serving as full-time Minister of Music at the Calvary Temple Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago under the leadership of Rev. Reedie G. Moore, Sr., Steven grew and developed both in music ministry and in the Word of God.  In 1995 he responded to another call of God on his life and on January 21, 1996, after delivering his initial message was licensed to preach the Gospel.

Rev. Smith has been blessed to work with several churches in the Chicago area, including Greater New Mt. Eagle Baptist Church and The Church of God in Christ Full Gospel Ministry.  He has recorded with Gospel artists like the late L’Andre Patterson, The S.H.O.P. Choir, the Soul Stirrers, the Inspirational Charms and My Father’s Children Chorale, a group he founded.  In collaboration with the Holy Spirit, Rev. Smith has composed numerous praise and worship songs, some of which can be heard in worship services throughout the country.  He has composed music for Gospel recording artist, Lacretia Campbell and was the personal travelling accompanist for Mavis Staples on worldwide tour, A Tribute to Mahalia Jackson. IN addition to these accomplishments, Rev. Smith has conducted countless music workshops and seminars throughout a multi-state area – Midwest, Eastern and Southern.

In 2000, Rev. Smith relocated to Durham, NC and served as Minister of Music at the Roger’s Grove Baptist Church.  IN 2003 he moved to Pittsburgh, PA to serve the Union Baptist Church of Swissvale, where the late Rev. Maurice Doss was pastor.  Under Rev. Smith’s leadership the music ministry of Union-Swissvale solidified and grew numerically and spiritually.  He remained there for 5 years before accepting the position of Minister of Music at the Union Baptist Church of Allentown, PA

Rev. Smith now faithfully serves as the Minster of Music at the Union Baptist Church in Allentown, PA where Rev. Benjamin T. Hailey is Senior Pastor.  

As he allows God to use him, the music ministry is developing and maturing, lives are being transformed and the Body of Christ is blessed.

Rev. Smith is currently a featured Songwriter on the newly released CD by Greg & Friends entitled, "A Fresh Start." This body of work includes his song, "For Your Glory!"

Rev. Steven L. Smith is a powerful visionary and gifted both as a preacher of the Gospel and as a skilled and professional artisan.  He comes with many years of choir and choral experience and his work is recognized throughout the country.
